articy:draft X installation
Download the installer executable and run it. Alternatively, you can download the client also via articy.com. Select Support (1) from the main navigation, then Downloads (2).
Here you always get the most current version of the application. The client is valid for the Free and Full version.
The installation itself is pretty straight forward. Note, that articy:draft X uses .NET 8, which will be installed automatically if it is missing from your system.
You can choose between “Standard” and “Custom” installation. The Standard installation uses the default installation path and also installs the two demo projects Dracula, which will be used in the Basics series, and Maniac Manfred, which is a more advanced demo project.
If you select Custom you can decide where the application will be installed to and you can also choose which demo projects to include in the installation.
Wait for a bit until the installation is complete. You’ll see a shortcut icon (1) on your desktop now to easily start articy:draft X, unless you checked the option to automatically start the app after installation (2).
articy:draft X registration
When starting articy:draft X for the first time you are prompted for your license key. Paste the license key you received in your articy:draft X Free welcome email. If you have already purchased a full version you can of course also enter the license key you received there.
Demo projects
If you used the Standard installation you will now see the installed demo projects in the project selection of the Welcome screen.
As mentioned earlier, for this series we are mainly going to use the Dracula project.
If you have familiarized yourself with articy a bit and work with Unreal or Unity, Maniac Manfred is worth a closer look. It is a point & click adventure and in combination with the corresponding engine projects, which you of course also can download for free, it is a slice of a small, playable game project.
If you deleted a demo project or changed too much and want to go back to the original, you can find and download the projects via the webpage.
They come in a zip file. Just extract to any location you like and then use “Open from File” from articy’s Welcome screen to locate and open the project.
