Setting up articy:server for internet access

Wed 16. Mar 2016, 11:15

If you want to expose you articy:draft server to the internet you find required steps below.

If possible you should use a VPN. That adds a security layer and also allows your team to also access other company resources.

If you don't have a VPN up and running and only want to expose you articy:server this are the steps.

  • Create a firewall rule to open ports 16707 (articy:server) and 16708 (internal SVN) on your router.
  • Forward traffic on those ports to the machine that is running articy:server (the articy:server installer already has added windows firewall rules on that machine to accept incoming traffic)
  • Ensure that you have a full qualified domain name that resolves to your computer that is running the articy:server when connected from an internal computer and is resolved to the IP of your firewall if it is connected from the internet.
  • Edit the articyserver.cfg file and enforce that the DNS name above is propagated for internal SVN connects as outlined here (use -svn.machinename switch)

For those of you that do not want to make such an setup yourself, we also offer hosting the articy:server on our machines. Read more about that here.
