How does level of detail work?

Sat 28. Dec 2013, 03:02

In the view options icons there's an icon Use Level of Detail.
I have a skill tree flow that is getting large and notice a bit of lag (yes my laptop is not good) so I was wondering how would LODs help?
Whether I turn it on or off I still get lag and it's hard to tell whether on or off is better, but there are visible changes in how the Fragments look so I was wondering if I could get more info about that feature?

Hi Tom,

First of all, happy new year.

The LODing changes the nodes' appearance to a cleaner summary when zoomed out. The full-blown nodes show a lot of information, so that's being reduced when you zoom out. There's a brief lag when the nodes switch to the reduced version (when zooming out) and back.

Since you mentioned you also experience a lag when LODing is switched off, I assume it has to do with more general performance issues in the flowcharting tool. The upcoming version 2.3 will bring tons of performance improvements, covering the Flow editor as well. This will most likely make those lags go away.

All the best,
-Kai
