I assume it's not inheritance you're looking for. From what I understand you want to have one spaceship type with the ability to change them all in one go. I'd probably use global variables for that, i.e. give the spaceships some standard values via templates and apply a modifier at runtime, e.g. while passing through the nebula, all spaceships have -20% on sensors.
