DeepL Translation

How to set up DeepL auto-translate

"Auto-translate with DeepL"

To use the DeepL auto-translation functionality within articy:draft you need a DeepL API account and have the authentication key ready. You can find your authentication key in your DeepL account settings.

The DeepL authentication key needs to be entered into the articy.cfg file. This configuration file is located at %Appdata%\Articy Software\articy\4.x.

The DeepL authentication key needs to be entered into the articy.cfg file. This configuration file is located at ~/articy draft/Profile/4.x.
- Screen Mac finder

Open articy.cfg with any text editor and look for the entry ;-translate.deepl.apikey YOUR_API_KEY . Replace the YOUR_API_KEY part with your DeepL API key and remove the leading semicolon to uncomment the entry. Save the articy.cfg file and restart articy:draft.

; 3rd party service API keys

; Uncomment and replace the YOUR_API_KEY part with your DeepL API key
; Free & Pro api keys are supported
;-translate.deepl.apikey YOUR_API_KEY

; Uncomment and replace the YOUR_API_KEY part with your OpenAI API key to enable the use of the AI extensions plugin
;-ai.openai.apikey YOUR_API_KEY

Your credentials are only used to contact the DeepL API, we don’t share them with anyone else. And because the cfg file is located in your User folder only you as the owner have access to it, which keeps your credentials safe.

When you start articy:draft the next time the Auto-Translate button will appear in the Localization View 1 and you can use it to quickly translate selected properties to the Current language.

Using DeepL auto-translate

Using the DeepL auto-translate is pretty straight-forward. From the Localization View select the language you want to translate to as the Current language 2. Then click the auto-translate icon 3 and select the property that is supposed to be translated 4. The amount and type of properties shown in the drop-down depend on the selection you made in the Localizable Objects and Properties settings plus any Template properties that are set to multi-language and are applicable in this area.

The selected property will be translated from the Reference to the Current language – if available in DeepL – for the scope displayed in the Localization View. With the Depth setting 5 you can limit or widen the scope.

By default only empty fields of the selected property get auto-translated 6. Be careful, if you uncheck this option all existing text will be overwritten and the Status will be set to In Progress.
