Introduction

articy:server ? What's that?

The articy:server manages the communication between articy:draft clients, the versioning software (also called repository) and the articy:server database. The database contains meta information on users and projects. For more details see The articy:server.

Installation

To install the articy:server please run the installer executable and follow the instructions given on the screen. After the installation has been completed, the articy:server runs as a Windows service with the display name Articy Server (service name: 'ArticyServer') and listens on the port 16707 on any network adapter of your system. A Firewall exception rule was created as part of the installation.

In case of an unexpected behavior you might want to check the articy:server log files. They are located in the subdirectory \logs in the installation directory. The most current log file is named ArticyServer.log. Please provide this file to Articy when you report an unexpected behavior. Logs are not deleted when uninstalling the articy:server.

Database

articy:server brings its own database. This database resides in the subdirectory /db inside the installation directory. The file name is ArticyServer.db. For backups, it is sufficient to include this file into your backup configuration. However, you have to make sure the articy:server Windows service is stopped during this backup process. The database is not deleted when uninstalling the articy:server.

Server administration

Each articy:draft client contains an integrated articy:server front-end for administration of users and projects. To enter this administration mode, start articy:draft, and connect to the articy:server as usual. Once connected to the server you are requested for user credentials. Enter:

User: ServerAdmin
Password: ServerAdmin

The username ServerAdmin is fixed and can't be changed, however you should change the password as soon as you enter the administration mode for the first time.

After having logged in, the server administration mode offers three different pages, each of them available via a tab in the upper part of the screen:
